WE'LL GO DIRECTLY TO HEAVEN... (guess who said that)
Me and Max played a quest game "The Red Button" with a no-frills plot: to find a red button and prevent nuke war. We found the button and prevented the war (as you can possibly observe).
After the game, the administrator told us that some gamers didn't want to deactivate the button after finding it: "Let's strike America in the game since we can't do that in the real life".

Jews live in Georgia longer than the Georgians do. And Jerusalem is just around the corner. And two Israeli girls checked in the hostel today.

I've never expected there are so many Jews left in Moscow, especially in the Radisson Hotel where I haven't been since 2002 when the BBC team worked there.

In my childhood, my age-mates used to bully me by calling me "a Jew", though I was not at that time, but they considered me Jewish because I was the smartest boy in the class and my parents didn't drink vodka. I became Jewish only when I was baptized at 26 years old. But it was too late: I could not become a good Jew while remaining to be a very bad Russian.

I took my son to the Hobby World but the event had been closed early, so we dropped into a nearby Jewish Museum. I was afraid this would be unequal substitution: games for a serious, even tragic, exhibition. But I was wrong: Max has shown a great interest in the subject. "Dad, what;s the difference between a Jewish swimming pool and a regular one?" (he's attending). "What's Jesus Christ's patronymic?" The museum is superb, especially for a child: he could touch everything, everything is interactive there. We even took part in a Sabbath ceremony with a 3D computer animation, lit a candle at the Western Wall's emulation. I showed Max where his ancestors from my side have lived. It's pity the museum was closed early due to an actual Sabbath.

I am at Jerusalem Day. Compared to the last years, this time is more inter-active. Lena and Marius participate in various master-classes, I refresh my knowledge (or, to be honest, un-knowledge) of Hebrew. In the brakes, we visit vegetarian Janatang (?) cafe which has nothing to do with the Jews, Lena also visits a sinagogue the first time in her life (and inside the building she visited a restroom).

Well, guys, I'm scrolling thru Trkai with a paper cup of coffee in hand, watching the castles and out of the blue thunderstorm hits. I'm turning the fifth speed and break into the nearest porch for hideout. A house's owner appears and invites me not to loiter but to proceed to the premises. Inside I see him cooking those Lithuanian cakes, don't remember their name, and he offers me to try his cooking. Usually I turn down that sort of offers as diarrhea is not compatable with trascedental meditation, but cute boys don't reject their protection racket. The pies were not bad, btw, with chicken. The man told me the house I've entered was not a common one but a center of the Karaim community founded yet in Prince Vitaus times 700 years ago for some whim. Karaims are Judaism adherers but not Jews at all. My host is a Lithuanian, though he's spent ten years in Israel and speaks Hebrew. He said all the town of Trakai is Karaims' land, though only some 250 of them have remained since seven centures ago. I asked him for a business card, so if you happen to travel to Trakai, feel fre to ask me for his address. And this is true that man once spent ten years in Israel, as he charged me 5 Lt for a pie. But since that sum included a lecture on history and refuge from rain, I don't consider it overpriced.

Drinking coffee and crunching matza in the Israel Embassy's Cultural center. Correct Jews, don't beat me with stones if this is not kosher! I'm listening to a lecture of an advisor from the Ministry for Absorbtion, who looks like a Christian Orthodox priest wearing kipa; asked him two very smart and up-to-the-point questions.

Having 38 С and still on duty, I'm a working class hero. Today I am wanted, beside my direct employer, by the BBC Radio 5 and a media with a romantic title "Jewish Eyes". Crap, today my eyes can see nothing, be they Jewish or whatever. But my professional skills could not be defeated by the virus.

This is amazing that Russian Old New Year coincides with Jewish New Year for Trees. I always suspect that Russians and Jews are the same nation. Moreover, there are more Russians among the Jews than there are Russians among the Russians, as well as there are more Jews among the Russians than there are Jews among the Jews. I hope you understand what I mean.

My smartphone turned mad: its screen shows everything reversed like in a mirror. And all the world went wrong: I came to the office and found out that all my colleagues have been discussing the Boston bombing. I nearly died there once.
Also I ran to work today with a firm intention to start a class action over health benefits; but we've settled the dispute peacefully after negotiations. On my way to work I saw in a shop Israeli salad, Jewish salami and lots of chicks in super-mini-skirts, life is beautiful.

Despite a somewhat provoking name, I liked the Jewish Museum, aka Center for Tolerance, aka Center for Avant-garde. It is made very much in American style -- a visitor may press buttons, touch screens to see and listen what he/she wants personally. For example, I lit a candle in front of simulated Western Wall. The only shortcoming of the museum are the prices, which are not the U.S. but typically Moscow's.

I have discovered in a toy shop a paper model of Toronto. If it wasn't for a price, I'll buy and heal my nostalgy looking at it. At home, me and Lena were eating toasts while discussing Chinese literature, Oblivion movie and Jewish question -- we are intelligent people, in the end of all.

In the morning there was a building-wide blackout and I didn't understand for what on earth I have waken up then in Purim. So I had to spent an hour for yoga practice and to sweep the apartment before the electricity was restored and I could dive into web-space. I have written a 4325-word article, booked airplane tickets; meanwhile, pilaw in the microwave exploded. On the run, in a hurry I am...

In my childhood in school an in the street the teens used to have an elaborated definition to disctinguish "ours" from "aliens".
1) Heeb (or Jew). A total pariah boycotted by everyone. "A Jew" could be abused in any way with no reprisal expected - mostly because the boys from the intellectual families were unprepared to defend themselves.
2) Uzbek (also called "churka" - chink). Proletarian children met them not with agression but rather with irony. Like, "he is a stupid, what can you expect from him". The "Uzbeks" were not abised, they were simply ignored in the games.
3) Khokhol (derogatory term for a Ukrainian). They were not rejected and attitude toward "khokhols" was generally friendly. They could participate in the games, though on the secondary roles.
4) "Udmurt" (small ethnic group in the Upper Volga. Why the teenagers picked up Udmurts as an offensive word, not Chuvash, Mordva or any other of hundred of Russia's ethnic minorities, remains enigmatic. Perhaps, the sound of the word seemd funny for their ears). It was a temporal nickname, given for some misbehavor ("You Udmurt, where are my cigarettes?") After correcting the wrongdoing, a boy returned to the full-right members of a group.

I must stress that all these terms had nothing to do with the ethnic origin of a person. A respected Jewish boy could be considered a pure Russian, while a mean, reclusive or otherwise disliked ethnic Russian boy could earned the Heeb token once and forever.

This is so funny that I understand some German words, for example: Ist der Platz frei? or Das ist Angela Merkel Haus.
So das ist Neue Berliner Synagoge, the Europe's largest, they say.

Das ist Angela Merkel Haus.

Paid tribute to my Jewish ancestors in the Holocaust Memorial. Also, a Berlin theater today has staged a performance Pussy Right about the punk group Pussy Riot case, and my junior son turned four.

I have arrived to Rechitsa I have been once 43 years ago to visit my cousin Alik, who now lives in that home town of my father's family. Also I wanted to check if my mother was right claiming that nobody in Rechitsa ever washes oneself.
Judging from Alik's bathroom, my mother was right. Otherwise, Rechitsa is a marvelous European town with many canteens and Jewish cemetery where the two old women have said: "Boys, you have likely just arrived from Israel?"
