Wearing a jacket on the occasion of live appearance on the OTR Channel over responsible parenting which I obviously represent.

Прабабушка, прадед, два деда, бабушка, одна мама, три отца, три сына, два внука, внучка, правнучка, два брата, дядя, племянница. Итого 20 человек и все носят одну фамилию.

 

Great-grandfather, great-grandmother, two grandfathers, one grandmother, one mother, three fathers, three sons, three grandchildren, great-granddaughter, two brothers, uncle, niece. In total, 20 people, all having the same surname.

Вот теперь я всей шкурой ощутил, что означает выражение "бутербродное поколение". Это когда на общение со твоим ребенком и с твоим отцом тратится равное количество нервной энергии и денег.

Now I learn it first-hand what the expression "sandwich generation" means. This is when your communications with your child and your father consume the equal amount of energy and money.

По пути из израильского лагеря под Калугой на дачу под Тулой подобрали в аыропорту Домодедово родственников из Сиднея, которые в Москве пролетом в Волгоград.

On our way from Israeli camp in Kaluga to the cottage in Tula we are picking up our relatives in Domodedovo airport who are making a stopover in Moscow on their way from Sydney to Volgograd.

Хотя Волгоград считается одним из самых экологически неблагополучных городов, сейчас здесь +26° и все пахнет луной и сиренью.

Though Volgograd is believed to be one of the most polluted cities, now it's 26C here, and everything smells with the Moon and lilacs.

Старший сын обучил свою маму пользоваться мобильным телефоном и торрент-трекером (второе даже я толком не умею), имею право гордиться своими детьми, они своих мам в беде не оставят.














 



My senior son has taught his mother to use a cell phone and torrent tracker (the latter even me is not good at). I can be proud of my children, they'll never let their mothers down in need.

Максу в классе задали нарисовать генеалогическое дерево. По этому случаю я вспомнил, что его прапрадед ровно 101 год назад, в 1915, погиб в бою в Первую Мировую.

Max was given a homework to draw his family tree, and I recalled that his great great grandfather was killed in action during the Great War 101 years ago, in 1915.

Мы в "большой" семье можем иногда ругаться по бытовым вещам, но в день выборов не сговариваясь все три поколения Серебряных голосуют за одну и ту же партию. "Значит верные книги ты в детстве читал".

In my extended family we may sometimes be in arguments over some everyday issues but when it comes to elections, all three generations vote for the same party. This is what makes family times really strong.

Сегодня ровно 29 лет, как я познакомился со своей первой женой. В будущем году надо бы отпраздновать.

















Today is 29 years since I've got acquainted with my first wife. It ought to celebrate the next year.

Старшая жена говорит: "Мы наверное самые старшие на этой площадке. Наше поколение на такие фестивали уже не ходит". 

И слава Богу. Пусть "наше" поколение сидит у себя на дачах и в огородах копается, не мешает живым людям радоваться жизни.

My ex-wife (marriage one) says: "We are likely the oldest people at that festival. Our generation rarely attends the events like this".

And that's cool. Let "our" generation spend their time at their cottages digging ground and not interfering to the other people enjoying life.

В ближайшие 20 дней никуда не несусь


















In the next 20 days I am rushing nowhere.

Мама рассматривает свой фотоальбом и вздыхает: "В моей школе за 50 лет только 16 человек стали кандидатами наук, я одна из них!"
Моя мама всегда стыдилась той среды, в которой она росла в детстве, и всю жизнь прилагает все силы, чтобы никто ее не заподозрил, что она - единственный во всем ее роду кандидат наук.







My mother is turning pages of her photo album and sighs: "In my school, in 50 years only 16 graduates have obtained the postgraduate diplomas, I am among them".
My mother is always ashamed that she spent her childhood in the low-class environment. And she does her best so no one ever could suspect her to be the only  bearer of postgraduate degree in her entire kindred. 

Гуляем с моими "дочкой в законе" Наташей и с внучкой Ксю, и Наташа говорит: "Игорь Аркадьевич, мне кажется, вы Ксюху как дочку воспринимаете, а не как внучку. По моим представлениям, дед себя должен иначе с внуками вести".

А в самом деле, дамы и господа, как бы вы определили, в чем отличие и есть ли оно вообще? Мне сложно это сделать потому, что моя внучка и мой младший сын - почти одногодки. И когда вся семья Серебряных собирается вместе, посторонние никак не могут понять, кто кому кем приходится )))

Me, my daughter-in-law Natasha and granddaughter Xu are walking in the park, and Natasha said: "Igor, it seems you take Xu for a daughter rather than for granddaughter. In my opinion, a grandparent behaves differently when playing with grandchildren". 

Well, actually, ladies and gentlemen, what is the difference, if any? I can't recognize that difference because my junior son Max is nearly of the same age as Xu. So when my entire family gets together, the strangers can hardly understand, who is who. LOL

Старший сын открывает уже вторую кофейню за два месяца, бизнес идет в гору, стучу по дереву... Ехал на социальном автобусе, в котором пенсионеры ругали губернатора Воробьева за отмену им бесплатного проезда. При чем здесь подмосковный губернатор, если каждый в России знает, что во всём виноват Обама?

My senior son has opened the second coffee shop in two months, his business is on the rise, touch the wood... Today I was riding a municipal bus where the retired persons slammed Moscow region's governor Vorobyov for cancelling their free ride benefits. But what the governor has to do wit that is everyone in Russia knows that it is Barack Obama who is responsible for all their problems?

Ксю на детской площадке подбегает к какой-то тетке и знакомит со мной: "А это мой дедушка!"
Тетка недоверчиво смотрит на нас и говорит: "А я подумала, что это твой папа".
Ну еще бы, учитывая, что мой младший сын - дядя Ксюхи - старше ее на три года и неделю.

At the playground Xenia introduce me to some old lady: "This is my grandpa!" The lady looks at us in disbelief and replies: "But I thought he was your Dad". Well, this is not surprising, as my junior son, Xu's uncle, is only three years and one week older than she.

Бизнес-новость мирового значения: мой старший сын открыл собственную take out кофейню. Надеюсь, она со временем вытеснит с рынка Старбакс.

Business news of the global importance: my senior son has opened a take-out coffee outlet. I hope it will one day defeat Starbucks.

Все же дико удобно, когда дядя и племянница почти ровесники. Мне можно не заморачиваться покупкой отдельных игрушек и прочих детских предметов младшему сыну и внучке.

This is awfully convenient when an uncle and a niece are nearly the age-mates. I don't need to bother myself with buying separate toys and other belongings for my junior son and my granddaughter.

Так вымотался за новогодние каникулы, что первые два рабочих дня просто отдыхаю душой, мозгом и телом. Не могу я долго бездельничать, я ответственный работник, не нуждающийся в надзоре. Оформил себе и младшему сыну билеты и бронь гостиниц уже на летние каникулы, получил звонок из Праги по поводу возможной работы, позанимался йогой, сделал пять материалов для работы нынешней, провел мелкий ремонт в санузле. Жизнь бьет ключом.

I has been so exhausted during the New Year holidays that I really enjoy the first two working days, by my mind, soul and body. I can't idle too long - I am a responsible employee who needs no supervision.  I have booked tickets and hotel for myself and my junior son for summer holidays now, got a phone call from Prague regarding potential job, did some yoga, made five items as my current job, made a small repair in a washroom. It's a beautiful life.

У нас на работе стихийный социальный протест назревает. Тем временем, прочитал уже 15 глав книги "Канада" Ричарда Форда, пока не понимаю, почему такой заголовок. Лучше бы он назвал роман "Монтана" 

Spontaneous class action is looming at my work. Meanwhile I have read through 15 chapters of Canada by Richard Ford, don't get it so far why the title is Canada. In my view it ought to be Montana.
